Saturday 10 May was a lovely sunny, warm day and our season opener. It was away to Newport B. The Seaclose carpark was nearly full due to Riverfest. And some of us paid for parking as there is confusion whether charges apply on Saturdays. Worth checking if you can find a notice board.
It was not a good start to the season as the team sheet only contained eleven names. And then there were two no-shows. Fortunately, Newport had a similar problem and could only muster ten.
The details are:
Rink 2 – Bernie, Trevor & Tim -had a sweaty start after dropping a 5 halfway through. We had to score 2 on the last end to win the rink 16.5 – 16.
Rink 3 – Jeff, Gordon & Norman O –due to many measurements it took half an hour longer to complete while all watched. Losing 14-20 was enough to secure the match.
Rink 4 – Derek, Bill M and Paul M – stormed in front winning 29-13 after adjustment 21.75 – 13
Overall score: Bembridge 52.25 – 49 Newport. Newport 2 points, Bembridge 8
Our two new players, Bill Murphy and Trevor Lockyer both played well. Hopefully a good omen for when we have a full turn out.
