Saturday 16 August was supposed to be part of the fourth heat wave. The overcast sky reduced the solar heat gain and the strong breeze blowing off Sandown Bay made for a chilly reception for the Men’s B Team playing away to league leaders, Sandown C.

Rink 1 Derek, Alan, Norman O and Kev made good steady start and were six up before Sandown scored their first point, a single on the fifth end. Slow scoring by both sides saw Bembridge leading at tea 6 – 9 at tea. This slow scoring continued throughout the second period with the game finishing 15 – 11.

Rink 2 Jeff, Trevor, Paul C and Tim made an unusually slow start but managed to keep Sandown to scoring ones and twos, but it was still 12 – 5 at tea. Bembridge then got into their stride and took the lead for the first time on the eighteenth end. A lead which they held to the end, finishing 16 – 18.

Rink 3 Bill, Paul M, John Hol and John Hyt struggled to recover from a five from Sandown on the second end. It was 11 – 5 at tea. Sandown then showed why they are top of the league by steadily opening their lead to win 30 – 9.

Shot Score: 57 – 42

Points: 6 – 4.

With two matches still to play, these six points guaranteed Sandown C promotion to Div 2.
