A fine evening greeted us at Plessey but the sun did not shine on a Bembridge revival. Although all three rinks made promising starts, our opponents soon took control and stayed in control until the end. There seemed to be little difference between the ability of the two teams but there was a gulf between us when it came to converting one counting bowl in the head to three, four or five. This was demonstrated vividly by one of our rinks going down heavily despite winning eleven of the twenty one ends.
Pat Maher with Gerald Rees, Chris Brown and Norman Cooper lost 14-21 despite Pat winning one end with the shot of the evening, trailing the jack through a forest of opposition bowls. Chris Emms with David Brown, Peter Svensden and Colin Greer conceded an early advantage before losing 13-26 and Bill. Silvester with Steve Day, Martin Ward and John Hawkes won on number of ends but still lost 12-27.
