Wednesday 22 July The Men’s B Team took the scenic route around the roadworks to play the re-scheduled match against Ventnor C. The re-scheduling from 19 July was agreed when Bembridge were unable to muster anything like a full team.
Rink 2 Jeff P, Bill, Paul M and John Hyl made a good start scoring slowly and consistently and were 3 – 9 up after nine ends. After tea this pattern continued, and they were up 7 – 15 after 15 ends. The tea must have had a rousing effect on Ventnor as they won the next five ends to take the lead after the twentieth. With a final effort on the last end, Bembridge clawed one point back to finish down 17 – 16.
Rink 3 Bernie, Trevor, Paul C and Tim made a slow start. They lost the first three ends before finding the green. They then fought back and took the lead by the eighth. They then steadily pulled ahead, ending winning 14 – 26.
Rink 4 Due to a last-minute accident Derek was unable to travel, so a hastily re-arranged team of Norman O, Gordon and Kev took on a full strength Ventnor team. It took Bembridge time to find the green and were 14 – 6 down at tea. Bembridge then took the next three ends and the lead. This re-focused Ventnor who took all but one of the remaining ends to win 28 – 16. Applying the penalty this became 28 – 12.
