I have an admission to make. When the team is on a poor run of form, writing the relevant reports can become something of a chore. This week, however, I am tackling this task with a smile on my face. Read on and the reason will become clear.
After heavy overnight rain, early anxiety over the state of the green faded as the sun came out and the match was able to start on time. It was an important match for both teams who were occupying the bottom two places in the league.
Pat Maher with Gerald Rees, Chris Brown and Norman started at pace and had soon built up a commanding lead which they never relinquished and won 27-13. This was a rare occurrence this season where all four bowlers played well at the same time. Bill Silvester with Steve day, Stewart Small and John Hawkes struggled to maintain contact in the early stages and their opponents’ skip kept up the pressure with a succession of outstanding bowls leading to an eventual loss 11-19. Chris Emms with David Brown, Peter Svensden and Colin Greer were involved in a game of fluctuating fortunes. As they approached the latter stages, they regained the lead with a 6 before conceding a 5 shortly after to put the game in the balance again. Fortunately, they kept their heads to clinch an important win 24-20.
