Thursday 23 July The afternoon started warm, humid and still with the forecast thunder clouds building over the mainland. These, and a few light showers, formed a distraction for the Men’s B Team to play their second match in two days. Their opponents were Shanklin E.

Rink 4 Bill, Paul M, John Hol and John Hyl had a close low scoring start and were 6 – 8 down at tea. This slow scoring continued with Bembridge taking the lead 14 – 11 on the twentieth only to lose a six to go down 14 – 17.

Rink 3 Bernie, Trevor, Paul C and Tim made a good start and led all the way to tea. This strong performance continued for the next four ends before Shanklin took the next five ends to draw level by the twentieth. The tense final end saw Bembridge hold their nerve and win 16 – 14.

Rink 2 Norman O, Chris Emms, Gordon and Kev had a close game and were all square at 11 – 11 by tea. With the ever-darkening sky, or something, Shanklin lost their concentration and Bembridge took the next five ends. This run included a HOT SHOT on the fourteenth. After that, the game petered out finishing 34 – 15.

Shot Score: 64 – 46

Points: 8 – 2.
