What could be nicer on a Summer evening than a game of bowls in the sunshine at Ventnor. Unfortunately, reality intervened and this match was played in heavy thundery showers and sunshine was sadly lacking. On a positive note, things turned out well for Bembridge A and they came away soggy but happy with the result.
There is only one place to begin and that is with the four of Chris Emms with David Brown, Peter Svensden and Colin Greer who started well, consolidated in the middle stages and finished like a train eventually winning 37-12. At no stage did they seem inconvenienced by the weather other than getting very wet. A special mention for Colin Greer who was relentless in his pursuit of the jack and disheartened the opposition time after time. On the other two rinks, Bembridge were less successful but managed to remain within touch to such an extent that the overall result was never in doubt. Bill Silvester with Stewart Small, Steve Day and John Hawkes went down 14-25 and Pat Maher with Gerald Rees, Chris Brown and Norman Cooper lost 14-20.
