Tuesday 1 July was forecast to be the peak of the late June heat wave. Luckily the B Team were at home where high thin cloud and an intermittent sea breeze made the afternoon a little more bearable. Sandown D were the opponents. Due to the forecast heat, a reduction to eighteen ends was discussed, but Bowls IOW had ruled that out.
Rink 1 Bill, Paul M, John Hol and John Hyl took the lead on the first end which they held until the eighth when it was all square. A four on the eleventh got the lead back by tea. After tea they gradually opened the lead finishing 21 – 13.
Rink 2 Bernie, Trevor, Paul C and Tim had a close game and were ten each at tea. After, the close game continued until a three on the twentieth gave Sandown the lead and the game finishing 17 – 20.
Rink 3 Alan B, Derek, Norman O and Kev struggled against a three-man team and were 4 – 12 down at tea. A six on the fourteenth gave some hope but Sandown continued to take ones. The overall match came down to the last end where Bembridge were holding two when the Sandown skip with the last bowl of the match yet again turned it into a one for them. The final score of 12 – 19 was adjusted to 12 – 14.25.
